Thad M. Oviatt
Thad M. Oviatt graduated from the University of Colorado School of Law
in May of 1973 and has been practicing law in Colorado since October of
1973. His practice has included an unusually wide variety of
practice areas which include criminal law as a prosecutor in 1973 and
in private practice in Denver starting in 1974. Mr. Oviatt has
represented Defendants in criminal and juvenile law matters and clients
in civil litigation, including: immigration law, workers compensation,
personal injury, juvenile law, family law and in wills and probate,
bankruptcy, property law, landlords/tenants and general civil
litigation with an emphasis on construction law, contracts and
mechanic’s lien practice.
In the spring of 1975, Mr. Oviatt joined the Wheat Ridge general
practice law firm of Skelton, Matassa and Dean. Shortly
thereafter he began working in the construction law field filing and
foreclosing mechanic’s liens for a large Denver ready mix
concrete supplier. He handled property acquisitions for gravel
properties and ready mix operations. He worked with other
professionals for obtaining the required permits for mining gravel
properties.
In 1976 the firm became Skelton and Oviatt and in 1977 it became
Skelton, Oviatt and O’Dell, a partnership. Skelton, Oviatt
and O’Dell dissolved in 1985 and Mr. Oviatt formed a new
partnership known as Oviatt, Davis and Clark continuing to practice in
the same areas, but focused increasingly on construction litigation.
In 1987, Mr. Oviatt formed a partnership which became known as Oviatt,
Clark and Gross, LLP, and continued his litigation practice in Wheat
Ridge, Colorado practicing in these same areas until the firm dissolved
effective October 1, 2006.
Mr. Oviatt then joined the construction law firm of Wells, Love &
Scoby, LLC in Boulder, Colorado, effective October 1, 2006, and
continues his general litigation practice with a strong emphasis on
construction litigation, continuing to represent ready mix and asphalt
