Wells Love & Scoby, LLC
Firm Profile
Wells,
Love & Scoby has been a pre-eminent construction and real estate
law firm in Colorado for over thirty years. Founded in 1975 by Dave
Wells with Terry Scoby, the firm originally focused on design and
construction claims and litigation, as well as mechanics lien
work, establishing a widely recognized expertise in this area.
Bill Love soon joined the firm adding extensive experience in real
estate law, with a particular focus on development, land use and common
interest community law. Led by both its founding and current
members, the firm grew in recognition, size and clientele during the
1980’s and 1990’s. Into the twenty first century, Wells,
Love & Scoby has continued its tradition of high level practice in
design and construction claims and litigation, mechanics liens, real
estate development, complex commercial transactions, and common
interest community law, utilizing the most modern technologies and
methods.
While Dave Wells and Terry Scoby have retired from private
practice, and Bill Love died in 2002, the current members – Craig
Blockwick, David Eisenstein, Ed Serr, Glen Krahenbul, and Thad Oviatt – average over 25 years of legal
experience in these areas. Clients include substantial residential and
commercial developers; a number of large ($100 million+ annually) and
smaller general contracting firms; architectural and design firms with
regional and world wide reputations; public entities, including the
City of Fort Collins, the FAA and Boulder County; and a variety of
other businesses and individuals. The recent addition of Thad
Oviatt has added capabilities in domestic relations and criminal law,
as well as his lengthy experience in the construction arena.
The philosophy of Wells, Love & Scoby has always been to provide
the highest levels of legal and practical expertise at a reasonable
cost. Our objective in complex transactions is to implement both
legal necessity and common sense, in order to promote a successful and
dispute free result. Our objective in claims and litigation is first,
to explore and if possible achieve an appropriate resolution without
trial. But if that cannot be accomplished, we will fully develop and
present the claim or defense for trial and have successfully done so in
cases against well known firms in Colorado and the nation. Wells, Love
& Scoby on its part tries to keep legal expense commensurate with
the amount of the claim, so that parties are litigating primarily about
their dispute, and not about the attorneys fees they have spent on the
dispute. Since the inception of Wells, Love & Scoby, these
principles have well served both the firm and its clients.
